Go

(2 players; 1 hour; ages 8+)

Go should fill maybe half the grade 2 or 3 math curriculum. The logic, pattern recognition, memorization and problem solving are more important than what is taught in most math classrooms. The game does not have to be played on this 19×19 board. The standard way to teach it is on small boards like 9×9, 11×11 or 13×13.

Go is the oldest game in the world and is one of the most popular – having huge followings in South Korea, China and Japan. Enjoy this sampling from one of my favourite teachers – Haylee. She travels the world competing in tournaments.

I think the universe is pure geometry – basically, a beautiful shape twisting around and dancing over space-time.
