This robust manipulative is excellent to give students a quick blast of 3D geometry. The other manipulative that I use in classrooms is Zome. The advantages of Zome are that it is more flexible. It is a tool that can be used by serious mathematicians. The advantages of Space Chips are that it is much less fragile, takes about a fifth the time to disassemble after class, and requires less supervision. With Zome students need to be supervised otherwise their creations can get dendritic and flimsy.
